Established in 1967, the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory is one of the world’s largest and busiest. With headquarters in College Station, a second full-service laboratory in Amarillo, and poultry laboratories in Center and Gonzales, Texas, it receives more than 220,000 requests annually for assistance in diagnosing animal diseases and is one of five state labs that form the hub of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network. The College Station facility houses the state’s only Biosafety Level 3 labs, equipped to study the most deadly animal diseases.
